I used to feel that way; I was always reluctant to "go there" out of fear of being accused of anti Semitism. But lately I'm beginning to think that it was primarily a Zionist plot (Jews along with Christian Zionists/neo-cons) - the Israelis and American Zionists were the ones who stood to benefit the most from getting the US war machine to take out all of Israel's enemies (which hasn't happened yet, but give it time). Others, like Dick Cheney, probably joined in to grab Middle Eastern oil. But overall it would be very hard to recruit non-Zionist Americans to knowingly attack fellow Americans. The Israelis do have a lot of experience with false flag attacks.
It's a terrifying thing, because if the full truth were to become generally known to the public, I think a lot of innocent Jews would be in real danger of retaliation.
