In those days, the original check was returned to the signee. So the bank would film all of the documents associated with a transaction. I would suspect the original money order was returned to a processing center. Certainly not to the person buying the MO. The other thing to remember is the clearinghouse operation. Today the automated clearinghouses are online and very little physical contact is needed. In those days, the clearinghouse was an actual meeting at the local level and swapping of documents with settlement being made on the differences between banks or institutions. In the early days, Kodak was the main microfilm processor and camera supplier. Gradually Bell and Howell and finally Dynacolor 3M made enrodes prior to Fuji film getting in the supply business. I was an authorized supplier and processor of Dynacolor 3M microfilm in Florida and Texas.
