I'm not surprised at the credulousness of some. Even people who should know better. But is it Greenwald's point though that it is the foot soldiers of the NSA etc who sign up for patriotic reasons? Just like some of them do for the military in general. They offer their skill set to their country because they still believe in all that crap? Certainly it is all part of the recruiting PR and they will be rewarded institutionally for going along with it and playing that game. At least to a point when it intersects with real politik.
As for Bill Blunden's question to Greenwald 'And so a question for Glenn Greenwald: what pray tell is there to prevent certain CEOs in Silicon Valley from betraying us yet again?' This too displays some thing in Bill as incredulous as he accuses of Greenwald. No one surely trusts any of them. The only way to be safe is to have everything in the open by using only open source software so it call all be examined and tested and seen for what it is by any one. All the corporate software you can absolutely be guaranteed will be compromised because the system which promotes it is fatally compromised and flawed from the get go.
