Sadly the political class and the media and the security state have been captured by the Neocon zealots --- and now truth and facts are discarded for the greater agenda. The US has been bloody awful and foul, politically speaking for 3 or more decades, but I've never before seen such a disconnect to reality as I see today.
Which leads me to conclude that the US must be in a very seriously dire situation - and the elite know it, hence what we are seeing. For me I suspect the end game will either be the loss of dollar hegemony - and eventually the collapse of the US empire and military might -- or the perpetual war strategy that is in danger of running out of control sooner or later.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.
