Who would know which one she was involved with? How could she prove she was involved with one and not the other? Therefore she had no choice but to disavow it...
She trapped herself with a mistake. She claimed the Oswald she knew spoke to her in Russian, however that would have to be Harvey since the rougher Texan Lee did not speak Russian.
She's got a problem because she also committed to Oswald coming back from Mexico to describe his visit to the Cuban Consulate. We pretty much know from the real witnessing that was covered-up by FBI and CIA that Oswald never went to the Consulate. So it is possible JVB got caught telling an outright lie here that she thought she could attach to the Mexico story. Also, the Oswald who allegedly went to Mexico was claimed to have spoken poor Russian.
There's a very interesting part of JVB's tale that has serious possible consequences. Anna Lewis said Oswald was in New Orleans in early spring 1962. If this is the same Oswald JVB allegedly knew then it had to be Texan Lee because Harvey was still in Russia.
It would take a lot more typing to flesh out the permutations of this but I think you can understand how this cross exposure would force JVB to realize there were two different Oswalds. If Laura Kittrell of the Texas Employment Office could tell these two apart surely a woman who claimed to be bedding Oswald should have been able to.
JVB has a credible Oschner background that allows for the possibility that she interfaced with one of the Oswald's during the period and is now creating a whole new history for reasons yet to be determined that might not exclude Intel spookery and muddying the waters.
