Thanks for that Jack. I enjoy Carroll a lot although I haven't read him for decades and decades.
That which is not, is also that which is - is a most meaningful paradox. These apparent ramblings of Carroll are equally suited to the Borderlands and Alchemy folder in a discussion on the transformative meaning of the Lapis Exilis and the Lapis Philosophorum.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.
