Tom Hanks is either the worst historian ever, or he has a CIA agent on his staff.
The Pentagon Papers case is really interesting, and it tells us a lot about Nixon, Kissinger, Ellsberg, and most tellingly, about McNamara, because clearly he was motivated here by his reversal of position as caused by LBJ after Kennedy's assassination.
But in reading the primary sources on this e.g. Bradlee's autobiography, Graham's autobiography, the authorized biography of Bradlee by Himmelman, there is no way there is a movie there. They all say pretty much the same thing, and are all about 12-13 pages long.
Is Spielberg and Hanks were really interested in history, this would be a 3 or 4 part miniseries and it would be good if you tried to tell the whole story. Of which the Post is only an addendum.
