Bill Blum helped open my eyes to the true nature of geopolitics in the 20th century, when I was just 17 years old (in the late 90s.) I picked up a copy of 'Killing Hope' when browsing the history section of a Tulsa book shop. The dust jacket was missing from the book, but I was so impressed with the content that I bought the only copy anyway. I still have that all-black volume with it's stencil logo 'KILLING HOPE' stamped across the spine. It remains a reference work of great value.
It was only after I got older and the Internet became a thing that I saw the full scope of the work he did.
A researcher whose work will remain a testament.
