Ed Jewett Wrote:Good stuff, Peter and Magda. There are a few phrases there worthy of replication. I hope that synchronicity, or merry elves driven by tiny reindeer, deliver me Peter's books for Boxing Day. (Yes, I know, it would help if my PayPal were pre-loaded. I'll try to see to it.)
Agreed, excellent post Peter and Maggie.
In fact, I want to start plotting significant events (e.g., "terrorist strikes," US/allied invasions of other countries, US/allied access to oil well and pipelines and poppy crops and so on, government curtailing of civil liberties, etc) against time/date/day/holidays.
I should have started that years ago. Any input in welcome. I plan to investigate the best technologies to plot the graph, the best kind of graph to use (likely a scatter graph), the appropriate technology (probably spreadsheet that uses macros to output graph).
And, I'd like to make it a sticky, probably in Players, organisations, and events of deep politics.
Again, this has been crying out to be done, especially since the days of the color coded/holiday scheduled news cycle driven "terrorist alerts" from the Dept of Orwellian Implementation, er I mean Dept of Homeland Security.
This contrived crap is painfully obvious to us. Let's make it painfully obvious to the most casual observer.
Thoughts?
On edit:
I figure it'd work roughly like this.
-Again, we'll have a sticky thread. My working title is: "Coincidence Graph." :aetsch:
-The first post in the thread will link to an html file/web page with the graph: x axis = Event, y axis = time.
-I'll maintain it and do my best to note obvious data points (like the bloomers bomber).
-Though I'll mainly depend on you guys to post in the thread to alert me to data points/events that should be plotted on the graph.
-Once we get it going we'll plot new events as they occur (see above list item), and ideally work backward to get a historical overview.
I'll whip up a prototype. Ideas welcome!
On edit again:
I'll probably use Open Office Calc. If anyone happens to be an expert in creating graphs using that tool, feel free speak up.
