Allow me to put this another way -- your failure to recognize W. Averell Harriman as the apex of your model is a serious mis-reading of history.

His retainer's son and grandson held the White House for 12 years.

His wife put Bill Clinton in the White House.

Seems like he was a rampant capitalist of the international variety so I can see how he might have viewed JFK as a commie loving peacenik. However, his term as NY Governor was stymied by a Republican controlled legislature so he wasn't a man who wielded enormous power, imo. He may have been a little cog in the wheel but hardly the mastermind of Dealey Plaza.
