David, you are the expert and I am not...but let me ask this...
What if Shakespeare was the real author of everything attributed to Bacon?
Could that solve the mystery?
Seriously, I see no controversy, because I liken the Globe Theater to TV's Masterpiece Theater or Hallmark Hall of Fame Theater, or to theater's Ziegfeld Theater. It was a commercial venture. It had an owner and producer named Will Shakespeare. He hired actors and writers. The writers, maybe a dozen of them, churned out plays to keep the actors busy and the tickets selling. Perhaps even the actors helped with improvisations during rehearsals, honing the dialog according to what worked with audiences. I see Shakespeare running this successful enterprise much like a television producer, turning out show after show, and turning out a profit for himself and jobs for his big staff. Naturally, as the entrepreneur, he also took all the credit. As producer he likely also contributed plots, writing, directing, and final editing...but did not necessarily write every word attributed to him.
But as an interesting mystery, it is something to ponder. To be Will or not to be Will...that is the question.
