Thanks, Magda. I felt strange after writing that, like it was too personal, and it really doesn't matter, not to me personally. I'm not Jewish but I'm very sympathetic to Jewish culture as a repository of ancient tradition.
Regarding Ed's post, not to be a smart aleck, but there are people who believe Africans (from Morocco) colonized what is now New Jersey before the English, and before Columbus, too, I guess. Moorish Science Temple, Peter Lampert Wilson (I hope I didn't mangle his real name, his pen name is Hakkim Bey) and the Seven-Fingered Glister will reveal more on that.
Regarding Gandhi, I sort of think it's irrelevent what Gandhi, whom I do not respect, thought about Israel, Zionism or Palestine. It's sort of like when India was trying to demand a place at the table for a final peace settlement in Afghanistan after the US invaded. I guess they believe by virtue of their claim to the Pakistani part of Kashmir they somehow share a border with Afghanistan. Or does it go back to emperor Ashoka and the Buddhist proselytization of Afghanistan 2,000 years ago? Anti-colonialists turn colonialists. It's the same old story: OUR colonies are models of human civilisation, whereas THEIR colonies are atrocious cesspools of human suffering, repression and tyranny.
Just as there was and is a back to Africa movement, I've heard many Israelis are relocating to Europe. Not just Cyprus anymore, either, but even Germany. Yiddish is making a comeback, Klezmer and traditional Yiddish music is ever-more popular and there is something underway, although I don't know enough to call it a trend yet.
