Gandhi and Einstein were there at the time, unlike us. I've read some of the things Ghandi said at the time and I don't necessarily agree that his motives were as cynical as you infer. Einstein is relevant because he was offered the job and knocked it back. You can take it or leave it, regardless of whether you think its a good argument.
