The SwissAir 111 crash happened amidst a group of crashes originating from JFK in the late '90's, including TWA 800 and Egypt Air 990. The main reason I think it was a bogus crash and not an accident is because the investigators concluded an electrical short circuit caused a fire to burn in the plane's 'attic' for about a half hour before it was noticed. That should peg anyone's bs meter instantly. To put this in perspective the Richard Reid shoe-bomb was stopped because a flight attendant smelled the sulfur of a match being lit inside the cabin. With Flight 111 we are being asked to believe an outright fire was going in the attic for a half hour without anyone smelling it. Knowing this was quite preposterous the investigators said a special air conditioning recycle system was keeping the attic air from entering the cabin and it was only when the fire got so big that it breached the cabin that it was then detected.
I've looked into this crash from day one and noticed that the original coverage said 111 turned to make an emergency landing at Boston but was then warned-off to Halifax because their emergency was too dangerous to risk a Boston landing and Halifax was closer. The coverage claimed this cost 111 too much time and was part of the reason they never made Halifax. Since then, however, I see this claim has been dropped so I'm not sure what truth is behind it.
The story says the doomed MD-11 aircraft had an uncontrollable fire that eventually descended on the cockpit, just as Flight 111 was circling to land, incapacitating the flight crew and causing the fated jet to crash into the Atlantic just off Halifax. There was no chance for survivors since the aircraft hit the water with such force that both the plane and victims were shredded to small pieces.
After 9-11 an Al Qaeda safe house was raided and terrorist plans were captured detailing using carry-on bottles of liquid, like liquor bottles, to smuggle flammable liquids onto commercial flights for terrorist purposes. This was in the Ramsey Yusef, Operation Bojinka vein of commercial jet terrorism. It is said the passengers were already dead in the cabin of Flight 111 at the time the flight crew was incapacitated. In any case, I'll leave it to you if you believe a roaring fire could burn in the 'attic' of a MD-11 aircraft for a half hour undetected or even smelled.
