Thanks Myra! Yes, a pivotal point in human history. Even a person deaf, dumb and blind like Helen Keller could see that this was a time of huge change and hope.
Some other anniversaries we might like to consider are:
The defeat of German fascism in Europe (May 2nd or 8th 1945) depending if one uses the Battle of Berlin or the signing of the surrender documents dates.
The first nuclear bomb human experiment (August 6th 1945)
The Chilean US sponsored coup (Sept 11th 1973)
Death by car accident of Diana (31st August 1997)
Triangle Waistshirt building fire Now International Women's Day (25th March 1911)
Paris student riots May in general 1967.
Capture of Saigon (and US defeat in Vietnam) 30th April 1975
Gulf of Tonkin 'incident' August 4, 1964
Reichstag fire 27th Feb 1933
Gleiwitz 'incident' 31st August 1939
1953 Iranian coup August 19
Bologna massacre (Gladio) 2 August 1980
Death of Roberto Calvi of P2 connected and money laundering Banco Ambrosio 17 June 1982
Release of US hostages held by Iran (and the end of October Surprise) January 20, 1981
Mysterious death of Pope John Paul 1, 28 September 1978
These are just some ideas.
