The Swedish Minister for Justice, Beatrice Ask, have now admitted that a surveillance similar to the one in Norway (involving a Surveillance Detection Unit / SDU) has taken place in Sweden since around 2000. However, nobody knew, not the Justice Department, not the Government (including Ask), not the police, not the Sicherheitsdienst (SÄPO) itself knew. If we are to believe them... The authorities are now going to investigate further.

Surprisingly (???) it is now also found out that the Israeli embassy in Stockholm has a unit similar to the American one. This unit however operates with co-operation from the police and the Sicherheitsdienst (SÄPO), and has done so for “several years”! The Minister of Justice (Ask) of course does not know... And police and SÄPO tops don't know, so they are able to deny knowledge...
The police helps for example with “background” of car owners from different registers - are they convicted, are they known or surveilled by the police, etc. - it has all been “run smoothly”, and hundreds of bottles of liquor are delivered to many policemen at Christmas...
