Hi Keith - only just learnt this myself, so this is my very basic understanding.
The aim is to replace a boring url (hyperlink) with something more interesting.
So:
i) type in the more interesting phrase;
ii) highlight the phrase (eg cunning plan);
iii) hit the "Insert Link" icon in the toolbar which opens when you're composing a reply (beneath the smiley);
iv) type in the hyperlink from another browser window into the "Insert Link" box.
v) the link should now be hidden beneath the more interesting highlighted phrase.
NB there may be an existing http:// in the "Insert Link" box, so make sure the link you're posting only has a single http://
