If your credulity is stretched beyond breaking point by the claim that they wiped the original moon landing tapes, what about the even more extraordinary claim that they destroyed all the blueprints for the Lunar Module? Arguably the most historic vehicle ever built on earth (or so the story goes).

Gee, if only the US had a depository for government collections and significant historical material. Then the tapes and blueprints could have been archived and available for education and scientific research. If such an institution existed it could be called Smithsonian. It could even have a National Air and Space Museum which is where legitimate material on the US space program would logically be stored.
Alas, there is no such institution so NASA and Grumman clearly had no choice but dumpster the tapes and blueprints. Clearly.
