I think that is a blunder as massive as you think the use of the term "mastermind" is a blunder. Americans can put together that Nixon, Bush, Ford, and LBJ were involved and that makes a great deal of sense. Then in a later round--the graduate seminar--you can explain to them that even more powerful and enduring interests were involved, such as the bankers, the oil men, and everyone else you have in mind. But, as a crucial preliminary step, it is indispensable to identify and nail the facilitators, which is what Jesse's show does so well--the best one-hour ever on JFK!
Jim,
You're fishing for phantasms.
I have neither written nor said anything of the sort. You are wrong about me in this regard -- absolutely wrong.
Here we are, about to re-open the old argument.
How the hell does labeling LBJ as a Sponsor (which the use of "mastermind" accomplishes, whether you accept that or not) "identify and nail facilitators"?
Here's an even more constructive question? Is "mastermind," for you, synonymous with "Sponsor" or "Facilitator"?

If an individual, through either his own volition or events over which he had no control, found himself taking up residence in a country undefined by flags or physical borders, he could be assured of one immediate and abiding consequence: He was on his own, and solitude and loneliness would probably be his companions unto the grave.

You can't blame the innocent, they are always guiltless. All you can do is control them or eliminate them. Innocence is a kind of insanity.
