Adrian Mack Wrote:Thanks Peter and Jack for your personal impressions. I'm not overlooking the fact that so many people remember Prouty with so much warmth. I can see and hear that he was a charming individual. I appreciate that he possesses a natural bluntness and authority when he speaks about these dark matters. It's very seductive.
I suppose, at best, that you could view Freedom - which I consider to be completely disreputable - as being one of the few venues Prouty felt he could turn to. I suppose. And maybe the biography is bogus. Maybe.
But how do we ignore the Iron Mountain deception?
Prouty said that the report though fake mirrored in many ways what he had encountered. This has been grossly twisted around.
mallprint:Mate, I am not an expert on Prouty in any way like certain others here claim. Nor did I know him nor am I in the 'Prouty God' camp. My opinions are similar to Jim Di's (surprise surprise, we do disagree contrary to popular opinion-but not on this one) However, I have noticed something a little alarming over the last few years. Where have Prouty's supporters actually been defending him? Where prescisely?
For example John McAdams has the cleverly worded essay on Prouty and the Star right at the very top his page about him and has had it up for years. That piece is now used by the Christchurch City Library and is linked to McAdams. Again-no one has raised an eye-brow. Well that was until I foolishly wandered in on it. Why so long folks? Now I'm a little annoyed truth be told. The Chch Star was and is one of the least interesting aspects of the case (for myself). I'm no martyr for the cause. It's a monkey on my back. But seeing as I started it I might as well finish it.
There's a ton of misquotations about Prouty and distortions on McAdams page. Again I ask where are the direct refutations of these misquotes? Oh theres a few of them scattered around (nope I say buried they're actually quite hard to find) with Prouty saying 'they're assholes' and Len going 'make up your own mind' but nothing indepth.
The issue here is that people take Prouty's word as 'gospel' they say go and read him and find the truth. Hold on a minute. Prouty's writings are not for newbs, beginners nor the casual internet surfer looking for a quick fix. Nor are they for someone who thought he was talking out his butt on a lot of trivial stuff (like I did in those dark days).
Prouty's actually getting fleeced out there. Unless you haven't looked. I was looking through an Alex Jones forum and the number of people that refered others to the McAdams website via Christchurch calling it a hoax was rather astounding. Indeed douche bags like Alex Jones and John Hankey constantly bray about it as being fact. Thus the pro Prouty lobby are or have been every bit as bad in many ways as those anti his works. If you really admire Prouty start refuting the claims made on his BS page and tell Len too set up a page (or better) set up your own Prouty 101 page where short simple answers about Prouty's comments on the McAdams page are given.
Its that simple.
Are you guys out there really fans of Prouty or just wall flowers who like posting on forums to feel better about yourselves for your ineffectiveness? I'm doing my small part, Osanic and Ratcliffe have been at it for decades (Lens been very helpful by the way) it's about time other noted Prouty 'fans' grew some 'nuts' got off forums like this and actually did something. Refuting McAdams like I said is a good place to start.
I'm sick and tired of cleaning up your guys #$%^&* mess :monkeypiss:
