Assassination of Anwar Sadat, October 6, 1981
As part of a military parade, a six man assassination team who had rehearsed and practiced the operation, and were directed by a knowledgeable senior official, throw stun grenades at security guards and shoot and kill dignataries, killing Sadat and others, shooting for well over a minute before security forces act, while the Vice President Mubarak is whisked away.

One of those assigned to the same elite Egyptian Army unit who participated in the attack was one Ali Mohamid. Ali wasn't with his unit because he was selected for special training in the USA at Quantico, Virginia, where he later returned to train others in special operations as part of the US Army.
Shortly after the assassination of Rabbi Kahune in a NYC hotel ballroom, the assassin ran out, shooting a policeman in the escape, and jumped into the wrong cab, not the one driven by a confederate. The NYPD called a press conference and the top cop said the assassin was a deranged, lone nut and there was no conspiracy.
When the cab driver and another collaborator who was in the hotel at the time were finally identified, and their New Jersey apartment raided, they found a cell of terrorists connected to a radical shik who was responsible for the first bombing of the World Trade Center, along with rheems of classified TOP SECRET documents, including Joint Chiefs of Staff records and counter-terrorism manuals from the Special Operations Training Center at Quantico.
These records were turned over to the FBI and not reviewed or investigated for years, and when they finally did get around to it, they discovered the JCOS and special operations documents came from Ali Mohamid, a former Egyptian Army officer who was stationed at Quantico and trained US special ops forces in operational crafts and techniques.
Ali Mohamid was an Al Quada operative who was ordered to infiltrate the US military and he not only did so, he was assigned to the most secret and significant intelligence installation possible, and betrayed all the secrets he learned.
I think he is now in US military prison and was probably one of those subjected to waterboarding though I don't know that, and just surmising.
And now, one of the few guys who escaped the attack on Sadat alive, and the guy who took over Egypt in the wake of the assassination of Sadat, is losing his grip on power he's maintained since October 6, 1981.
Political assassination has played an important role in these political machinations, both at home and abroad, and I don't think we have seen the end of it.
