The notion of rating agencies such as S&P as objective chroniclers of Truth is, as we all know, so much bunkum.
I interpret this S&P downgrade as a deliberate elite move to bolster and provide ammunition for the bought and owned politicians (mainly Republican) who are attempting to legislate for a massive reduction in American national and federal spending.
As post #573 here suggests, key players knew the downgrade was coming way in advance.
