What we have in the company quaintly called Mankind Research Unlimited (MRU) is an example of the functioning of the military-intelligence-multinational-complex.
Even the official potted biographies often reveal extensive military training and service, and - eg Christopher Bird - employment by a "classified government agency".

Bird learnt his Russian from White Russian emigres. He's a pointman for Rand in the USSR. Some of his time employed for a "classified government agency" is in Japan. Atsugi's MK-ULTRA base? Then he works for the US Army in SE Asia as a psychological warfare expert. Phoenix?
At the height of the Cold War, MRU is working on highly classified research with both leading American and leading Soviet research institutes and researchers.
MRU appears to be acting as a gigantic hoover to suck up all the basic research into fields (from magnetic to Kirlian), psychotronic and electronic research, and psychic phenomena such as out of body experiences (remote viewing) from around the globe.
MRU claims that its intention is to use this for the benefit of the human race.
