Milchan was born in Rehovot, British Mandate of Palestine, to a father who owned a fertilizer company,[1] which Milchan turned into a successful chemical business.[citation needed] He also earned a degree from the London School of Economics. Milchan worked for years in Israeli intelligence (both for the LAKAM under spymaster Benjamain Blumberg and the Mossad under Rafi Eitan) as a weapons procurer, and for the procurement of sensitive technologies for Israel's nuclear program. He was heavily involved in business activities in pre-revolution Iran, and with the South African Government in the 1970's, both in weapons procurement and in efforts to influence international-media attitudes towards the Apartheid regime at the time, in partnership with South African Information Minister Eschel Rhoodie and Interior Minister Connie Mulder. Mr. Milchan was a primary financial facilitator of what became known as the great South African Information Scandal, or Muldergate.

In the 1980s, Milchan was involved in the Richard Kelly Smyth spy case involving the smuggling of Krytrons (nuclear triggers) to a company owned by Mr. Milchan in Israel. Smyth escaped to Malaga, Spain in 1985 to avoid trial in Los Angeles. He was arrested sixteen years later and extradited back to the United States in 2001. He was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison on a single count of smuggling.

Milchan then began investing in movies for various directors.[citation needed] Most notable among those directors was Martin Scorsese. Milchan started his own production company in 1991 called New Regency Productions. Through his company and other business ventures Milchan has attained a net worth estimated at about $3.6 billion and is listed in the middle of the Forbes 400 list of the richest men in the world. He owns an art collection worth over $600,000,000.

Arnon Milchan is listed as a producer by IMDB for many classics films such as Brazil (1985), Once Upon a Time in America (1984), Pretty Woman (1990), Under Siege (1992), Natural Born Killers (1994), Boys on the Side (1995), L.A. Confidential (1997), Unfaithful (2002), "Knight and Day" (2010), and many others.[2] He also appears as the chauffeur in Once Upon a Time in America. Arnon Milchan eveloved into one of the most prolific independent producers in Hollywood history.

Milchan is also noted for being a strong supporter of Israel.[citation needed] He is a personal friend of Shimon Peres and underwrites the Israeli Network which transmits Israeli television programming to the United States and Canada via cable and satellite TV.[citation needed]
