An additional thought from way out in the bleachers is some awareness of a range of shootings in the US on or about the same date. I do not postulate a connection at this time, though three or four of my eyebrow hairs achieved a full upright position. On 6/25, five people were hurt in a shooting on Market Square in San Francisco, four were shot and one was stabbed in Northwest DC, two were shot in Newark, NJ, and that's only a quick sampling. On 6/26, Google search immediately highlights Dorchester and Harlem. These, it would seem, are nothing more than "routine" inner city violence. Pardon me if I am a little jumpy. On the highway yesterday, the passenger in the passing car with slightly-tinted windows was holding what appeared to be an automatic handgun. Another phenomenon blossoming with regularity recently in numerous places inside America are the sudden appearances of flash mobs at convenience stores to conduct simple theft and vandalism. My situational awareness tells me the US is undergoing a significant uptick in fear, tension and terror. And then there is "the Fast & Furious business", about which more tomorrow morning, in a different location altogether... There is a thread here which I have not updated recently but I'll try to do that later tonight.
A revisitation to the schools of research in traumatization might elicit some understanding about how the creation of tension affects critical observation and thinking. I'm quite sure it doesn't enhance it.
