After a speech by JFK at Rice University Stadium when I was in high school, there was a motorcade along Main St for the 4 1/2 mile trip to the Rice Hotel in downtown Houston. A little past half way with the motorcade passing just 2 blocks away from the school, the students, myself included, and faculty went to see the president. What I remember most, besides JFK's color that was quite tan, is the lack of cameras compared to the Dallas motorcade 14 months later, and a small airplane overhead pulling a banner that read, "Enforce the Monroe Doctrine". As this was about 1 month before the Cuban missle crisis, but some 17 months after the Bay of Pigs incident, apparently Cuba, as an issue never was far away from JFK's presidency. I feel as though there is a story here, but I Just don't know what it is.
