We certainly don't have millions living in these but there are plenty of underground homes in the mining towns out back. http://www.realestate.com.au/buy/in-coob...723/list-1 It's too hot to live in an above ground traditional house. Underground the temperature is always stable, no council building approval need because it is all part of the mining lease. Some of them are really lovely.
