Points of contention are, in the aggregate, the sine qua non for enlightenment.
To wit:
It never has been and never will be my intention to demean those who, with noble intentions, wear uniforms.
They are not villains.
They are victims.
Their noble sacrifices are made on altars unimaginable to them.
I decry patriotism insofar as it is the antithesis of the notion of universal kinship.
Give me one morally sound reason why I should value the life of a person born within the borders of the nation state of my birth more highly than the life of a person born outside those borders.
Take all the time you need.
Flags are best appreciated as shrouds.
The U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution acknowledge and codify human rights, not American human's rights.
Pledges of Allegiance are implicit declarations of pending wars.
To my sisters and brothers around the world, to my animal companions, I extend my wish for peace.

If an individual, through either his own volition or events over which he had no control, found himself taking up residence in a country undefined by flags or physical borders, he could be assured of one immediate and abiding consequence: He was on his own, and solitude and loneliness would probably be his companions unto the grave.
-- James Lee Burke, Rain Gods
You can't blame the innocent, they are always guiltless. All you can do is control them or eliminate them. Innocence is a kind of insanity.
