What a fascinating article Myra.
There are many places within South America which are German. Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay all have huge German colonies there. Generations of Germans who never learn to speak Spanish (or Portuguese) most of the houses look like they have been transplanted from the Swiss Alps.
