Crazy Horse was a Sober Warrior
#7
Somewhere in the eighties my sister as a health care related professional sat in on a seminar by a New York cardiologist telling his experience to hundreds of young dedicated minds.

He finished his state of the art education, the crown of medical science. His first assignment to serve on a reservation.

In New Mexico.

He visits the medicine man. The prognosis is terminal. The cardiologist patronizing.

Suddenly the medicine man asks does the doctor dance. Do a little. The self-conscious cardiologist does a ballroom step and the medicine man approves.

Then does something amazing. Rises and does what he refers to as a blue corn dance.

He recovers in a seemingly miraculous fashion and is visited by his village who take him to the festival, returning him at the end of the day.

The cardiologist is doing this scene with Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro in Awakenings, oh my, well we'll see you tomorrow--

No. You won't. Answers the medicine man.

They came for his body in the morning. The rites.

The cardiologist--and she gave me the cassette (where is it)--said at that time I knew what I learned from the best of the modern schools and texts and teachers was as nothing.

Back in the sixties they'd say may the Baby Jesus open your eyes and shut your mouth.

Well I'll get John Newman's books on Jesus some day but it's never too soon to open.

Open it all up.

Except the hooch and the speed and the smack and all that get in the way stuff.

Honkie honkie
get out the way
