Thanks for that one Maggie,
The events of 9/11 were preceeded by the assassination of the leader of the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan, an assassination that should have put the USA and the world on alert.
Shortly after the liberation of Tripoli, a Libyan Jew who fought with the Amaizings tried to restore the centuries old Tripoli Synagog, which he did with the permission of the neighborhood Sheik. But the Salafis threatened to kill him. By the Way, both the Amazings - Berbers and the Jews were living peacefully together in Libya for hundreds of years before the area was conquered by the Arabs in the sixth century. They were both minorities violently suppressed by Gadhafi.
The Sufis of Libya have also been the target of Salafi's, as the graves of their saints have been desecrated, their remains stolen and entire Sufi Mosques bulldozed, without any repercussions from the Tripoli police or military, who claim it is a religious affair.
Now I believe that the Salafis are behind the anti-American protests using the film as an excuse - and the film itself may be a false flag operation the purpose of which is to enflame anti-American hatred over a false reason.
The Sufis, it seems, are like American Baptists, who like to sing and dance as part of their religious ritual.
This is not just a Arab problem. There is also a very orthodox and strict Amish cult in Ohio and Pennsylvania who attack and violently prevent other Amish from adopting modern conveniences, like using tractors and driving cars.
The problem is, while these people hold strict religious principles, they don't just want to uphold them for themselves, they want to force their beliefs on everyone - just as Islamic Law was enforced in Afghanistan when the Taliban ruled.
I have a number of Libyan and Arab friends, and they tell me that these Salafis are a distinct minority and do not represent the beliefs and attitudes of most Libyans or Arabs.
Therefore, I think it will be up to the moderate Islamic people to curb the excessive violent extremists and convince them to allow for a diversity of religions and cultures to live together.
If they can't be convinced of that, and they would rather fight, then they will be martyrs for their lost cause.
