Everyone wanted the Oil, which disproportionately fell [by no means entirely] under Arab lands and what is now Iran - former Persia [who are not Arabs, though Muslim]. It is interesting to note that in most all of the Muslim countries, some Jews lived without problem for many centuries. Hebrew and Arabic are very close linguistically and many of the customs [for example, Kosher and Halal] are quite similar. Of the Abrahamic religions, the Jews and the Muslims shared more.
