I've gotten to the point that the "robber baron" explanation seems to be a secondary motive. The first is the destruction of a social fabric -- particular labor unions and political parties that would appeal to labor -- and its replacement with a new and wondrous future -- a golden dawn. Making a few bucks? Sure, that works, too. It gives credibility to the claim that, 'We are all in this together.'
The original robber barons also set out to destroy organised labour such as unions, and a social fabric based on mutual respect and humanity, replacing it instead with a New Dawn.

I agree that Profit is not the ultimate driver, Power and Control are.
However, Greece is being looted and plenty of the Mechanics and Facilitators will be rewarded with Profit, with Filthy Lucre.
