Taxman can use database of ID cards to track our spending habits and bank accounts
#2
Thanks for this David. The ID scheme, unpopular as it undoubtedly is, will be another policy (in the mould Blair's strategy to involve the UK in the Iraq war, or the thrust-down-our-throats terror laws for that matter) to be pushed through by the powers that be despite any amount of public opposition.

The terror laws, as we know now, have been applied for absolutely non-terrorist activities by state authorities --- for example, councils using these laws to snoop on parents seeking to place their children in certain higher grade schools, in the belief that the parents were lying about their catchment area. The only accurate use of the terror laws in this (and hundreds of other similar cases) is that it has been a terrible fookin' use of completely-stark-bollock-naked terrible laws...
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.
