The engineering of the dollar - the 1973/4 oil price shocks

Dollar hegemony lives.

The US Treasury engineered golf price crash of last year are testament to that.

A wise man might consider waving a fond farewell to the planned BRICS nations gold backed currency.

David, Your last comment about the Brics triggers something that has been brewing in the back of my head for some time. Peter put up a post about Paul Craig Roberts on how the US has shipped all of its gold overseas. Estulin concurs that it's all gone.

My speculation is that the dollar could be backed by dog pooh just so long as we can project global intimidation, bribery, blackmail, assassination, fake riots, drone strikes, economic war and ultimately physical war. Commodities don't back the dollar; the so-called international system backs the dollar.

Dog pooh would at least be something, would't it, Lauren.

As all senior bankers know the whole money thing really is a confidence trick ---- money is backed only by people's confidence. If ever that goes, then we are in dooh-dooh land, good and proper.

My take is that if ever this happened, the price of gold and silver and other tradeable commodities would leap vastly. About 6 months ago you couldn't buy the smaller denominated gold coins for love or money. They''d sold out. the 1/10th coins are still hard to get, but the 1/4 ounce upwards are now freely available again.

What do I know, but if I had some spare cash I'd buy a few for a rainy day, and just tuck them away somewhere. For decades if need be.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.
