A lithium battery fire with a huge amount of batteries still allowed plenty of time for the pilots to react:

And a reaction would include contacting Malaysian ATC before the plane was disabled by fire. Since a transcript of pilot has been unofficially released as reported on CNN, there were no unusual communications until the famous "Good night" took place. No sign of emergency.
