There are more unknowns than most think. For example [and highly suspicious to me] is that the freight manifest has not been released - and shouldn't be sensitive, unless something highly sensitive was in the hold. That something could have been reason enough for something going awry with this flight. I can see why the passenger manifest was long held close to the chest - out of respect for the relatives and friends of those onboard, but either might well be connected. Personally, I don't think a shoot down is likely, but one can not rule anything out. As far as the Russian article, I'm a bit skeptical that one can refuel a passenger flight. If one is going to go to that kind of trouble, one might as well hijack a military flight which can be refueled. Hijacking a secret military flight would be best - as they wouldn't want to acknowledge it. Just like with JFK, the waters seem to have been muddied by many divergent theories - some just filling the vacuum and speculation; some trying to pick and choose crumbs and build a scenario; some very likely injected disinformation. I think it is still too early to really 'investigate' this effectively - too little information one can trust. I'm waiting for some hard evidence and some motive. Both are missing at this point. IMHO. EVEN IF something is found that seems to be parts of the plane SW of Perth, that only starts the puzzle solution. I think it highly likely that who or whatever agent or agency pulled this off [and was able to disable two tracking systems], likely also knew how to disable the 'black box/flight recorders' and they may contain nothing even if found [a very very big if!].
