How are Hunt and Sturgis planning to extort money from Nixon, by succeeding and finding out dirt on Nixon's political opponents? Failing that, what would be their reasoning about how deliberately getting caught would make extorting money from Nixon any easier? Is McCord trying to save the President the embarrasment of getting blackmailed, by embarrassing him with the burglary? (I know Hunt hit Nixon up for money AFTER they got caught, but no one, not even Hunt, ever claimed that going along with this scheme was actually planned as a way to extort money from the President.)
There are a few authors on Watergate, but not even those authors knew who the sixth burglar was. You should try reading the Howard S. Liebengood papers, box 36, and what my father told Liebengood, than you'll know. Didn't you know that Hunt wanted two million dollars from Nixon? Didn't you know that they had to get caught in order for Nixon to get impeached? Didn't you know that those who did get caught knew that they were going to serve a short amount of time, but there would be a huge payout when released? Don't you know this stuff?
I could tell you why Watergate happen, but than it would not serve the purpose.
