Well, it is possible that someone is impersonating Norton - or that he has a 'double' after Dallas. If his role is as central as hinted at by many it is surprising to me that he is still alive or not a rabbit hole to dive down...but who knows.....John had a great memory and was not given to inventing stories......I believe he told this one as he remembered it. That doesn't mean he met the real [if such a term is even possible] 'Norton' - or that 'Norton's' [singular or plural] role[s] might not be more complex [and more highly disguised] than portrayed.
