A public complaint about the ubiquitous spying is a not-very-subtle threat designed to force Israel back to the bargaining table with the Palestinians. Israel is refusing to negotiate with the coalition "government" of the Palestinians, which includes the Iran (or Qatar, depending on who you believe)backed terrorist group Hamas. It is apparent that Israel desires no end to a permanent state of war (why does that sound familiar?) and leaves negotiations on any pretext. To be fair, the Arabs have pretty much the same negotiating tactic, and any peace-making efforts are doomed internally by the more militant among them.
Israel can spout all the outraged denials it wants - the US is the only nation that even listens to them any more. Will we continue to care about their "outrage," if they continue to fail to negotiate in good faith?
