However, I consider the statement to be delusional. In fact, I suspect it reveals Shayler's near total lack of self-knowledge.
Imo he clearly does give a fuck about what other people think of him.
Indeed, his sense of self may even be defined by his understanding of how other people perceive him.
Otherwise, he'd just get on with dressing up as a woman.
He wouldn't let all and sundry photograph and interview him for articles that he knows, he absolutely knows, will be hatchet pieces designed to destroy any remaining credibility he possesses.
Shayler's worldview is the same as the washed-up music hall idol, still treading the boards of crumbling seaside theatres, not caring whether he's applauded or hissed. Just wanting the attention. Craving the attention. His very existence dependent upon others responding to him -whether as a fugitive whistlebower or a squatting transvestite.
