INTERFAX.RU - The new version of Russia's military doctrine should define the main enemy of the country, as well as to clearly define the conditions for a preemptive strike by the Russian nuclear deterrent forces (SNF). This was stated by the agency "Interfax" on Wednesday, Coordinator Office of Inspector General of the Russian Ministry of Defence, Army General Yuri Yakubov.
"This strategic document for the country to be in the first place clearly identified the potential enemy of Russia, which is not in the military doctrine of 2010. In my view, our main enemy - the United States and is the North Atlantic bloc," - said the general.
He recalled that a few years ago the United States and NATO at all levels stated that the North Atlantic bloc, the West are not the enemies of Russia. But now, according to the general, against Russia "is deployed real information war, in the face of our nation deliberately shaped as a foe of the West, with far-reaching."
"And most importantly - our borders are roughly base the United States and NATO. These global changes and challenges, in my opinion, should be clearly reflected in a revised military doctrine," - said Yakubov.
It became known that Russia at the end of the year will clarify the military doctrine, due, in particular, with the events in Ukraine , NATO's eastward expansion and the United States plans to deploy missile defense in Europe.
The general said that the new document should reflect the fundamental changes that have taken place in the organizational structure of the army and navy: the creation of Forces Aerospace Defense ( ASD ), the formation of the Rapid Reaction Force on the basis of the Airborne Forces and the National Control Centre of Defence States and a number of others.
"In particular, in my opinion, you need to carefully consider the forms and methods of operation of EBA, in close cooperation with strategic nuclear deterrence forces, the Strategic Missile Forces, strategic aviation and the Navy. Thus it is necessary to study the conditions under which Russia could preempt the Russian strategic nuclear forces" - said the general.
The current version of Russia's military doctrine was adopted on 5 February 2010. It stipulates that the Russian Federation reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in response to use against it or its allies of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, as well as in response to large-scale aggression using conventional weapons, a threat to the very existence of Russian state.
