I want to know where all these protest were when Britain owned the island? There was zero democracy then. Just run by the colonial office as an administrative area. No messy elections or voting. And no protests.
And why didn't the US government get behind their own Occupy movement if they love democracy so much? More democracy with China than ever with the UK. Room for improvement and it is coming. This is just a side show to destabilize China in the East while they are doing the same thing in the west with the Uiygas of the oilfields and the Tibetans in the south.
