I'm just into the chapter relevant to spook news manipulation of the global village idiot in the book Flat Earth News; essential reading, if depressing, Chap.6 - The Propaganda Puzzle:
(Of news manipulation-) "We can see this best by looking back at the way the agency [CIA] ran it's propaganda during the cold war. There, at least, we have enough solid information to see the way in which the subterfuge worked. Almost all this information comes from two 1976 congressional inquiries, chaired by Senator Frank Church and Congressman Otis Pike; and from two defining works of investigative reporting in late 1977, by Carl Bernstein in Rolling Stone magazine and by John Crewdson and Joseph Treatser in the New York Times."
Odd thing about this, is that I'd never heard of these, but 'church' & 'pike' have been very frequent references I've had for at least a couple of years.

Martin Luther King - "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
Albert Camus - "The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion".
Douglas MacArthur — "Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword obviously never encountered automatic weapons."
Albert Camus - "Nothing is more despicable than respect based on fear."
