The Czech 'Schindler' Sir Nicholas Winton Given Czech Rep. Highest Honor

There is a wonderful film about him and his survivors. They love him, as do their families - and treat him as a surrogate father in some cases. This summer they had a photo exhibition about the stories of his survivors - before, during, and after the War. Very touching. In one panel [a panel for each survivor], the woman's now grown son was on his knees in tears before Winton in London a few years ago thanking him for his own existence and Winton's saving of his mother. He also added that if anyone deserved to live so long it was surely Nicholas Winton. I think in total it is now about two thousand who owe their lives to what he did. Sadly, his largest trainfull of children was stopped by the Nazis and they forbade any more of them. He risked his own life too, despite being British, as he was part Jewish, and operating in occupied territory. Amazing is that he didn't even tell his wife....she discovered it by accident while going through some old scrapbooks in the attic. At 105 his saved children are in their 80's now....and there are many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all owing their lives to him and he alone. One can find more on Winton by looking him up on any search engine. The world needs many more like that man!
