The writing is sub-par in places (as you would expect from someone who has no background in literary fiction) but the plot is excellent and anyone with an interest in deep politics will enjoy it. It would actually make an excellent film if only there was someone left in Hollywood with the cojones to touch this kind of material.
Another very good book along similar lines is The Prone Gunman by Jean Patrick Manchette. This one actually has been turned into a movie recently, but sadly it looks like a giant steaming turd. Oh well.
