The writing is sub-par in places (as you would expect from someone who has no background in literary fiction) but the plot is excellent and anyone with an interest in deep politics will enjoy it. It would actually make an excellent film if only there was someone left in Hollywood with the cojones to touch this kind of material.
Another very good book along similar lines is The Prone Gunman by Jean Patrick Manchette. This one actually has been turned into a movie recently, but sadly it looks like a giant steaming turd. Oh well.
Yes, the writing is just okay. But he really has done his research. I had never even heard of the Avro Arrow Canada-Pentagon project, which the CIA may have helped to kill because it was competing with the U-2.
