I have not read the other two, although I should have.
I have always thought that the Baron was an unwitting tool in the plot, which is what I think Garrison also thought. His function, as assigned to him by J. Walton Moore, was to befriend Lee and Marina, and then ingratiate them with the White Russian community, and most importantly Ruth and Michael Paine. He then was paid off, and stepped offstage to another assignment in Haiti.
He and his wife dutifully did their dirty work on Oswald for the WC. But they then felt badly about it afterwards. I think George really began to get suspicious when that very different version of the BYP showed up in his belongings in his storage locker in late 1966, early 1967. It has a wider field of view, and much higher resolution than the other two. Plus, if I recall, it had a white border to it. When Chris Sharrett and Groden of the HSCA looked at it they were stunned. Its also the one that was allegedly signed by either Oswald or Marina, or both. According to Carol Hewitt, there was actually a meeting between the DeMohresnchildts and the Paines over how this thing got in his storage bin.
And then when you look at his death, I mean talk about a mystery. Where do you begin? I did what I could in this regard, (see Destiny Betrayed, pgs. 334-38) But I still do not really know what happened to him. The inquest hearing was not what it should have been. And the HSCA did not do any real separate investigation since that was the day Sprague was being booted from his counselship.
I for one do no think that the roles of either Oltmans or Epstein in the Baron's demise have ever been adequately explored.
MEGATHANKS, as always, Jim.
No doubt you agree that the sheer timing of George De Mohrenschildt's "suicide" speaks volumes!!!
I only have the first edition of Destiny Betrayed, and haven't checked it for this post, but isn't there, once again, a real problem with the bullet casings in the deM "suicide"?
I thought this might be a nice place to, once again, catalog the HSCA witness deaths.... And may Bill O'Reilly finally be called to task for his lies....
