I think a light went on in my own head when Janis Joplin died and Jimmy Hendricks a few weeks later. At the time my university campus was under seige by the local county police [several fully-armed illegal raids] and it all seemed to form an ugly pattern......that, sadly, has never gone away.....quite the opposite....... By the way, there are other folk singers of protest songs and rock musicians speaking against the 'Beast' that died mysteriously, not on that list......
