Pakistan is an overcrowded country full of Islamic fundamentalists. The Pakistani military-industrial complex is mostly allied with the US (and covert relationships with Saudi Arabia and Israel as well), and they worry about preserving their power and internal security, like the Shah of Iran did.
Pakistan could never admit to its people that they allowed the US to kill Bin Laden, even if he was a powerless, invalid old man under protective custody (probably since 2000-2001). And the US would never fly its helicopters into Pakistani military airspace without permission, because there would be too much chance of them being shot down by accident.
